Bid For My Meds - Ancient Kingdom Story

This is a story about an ancient kingdom that was quite prosperous, everyone had jobs and life was very good for most of the residents of the kingdom.

There were a number of entrepreneurs in the kingdom who were promoting home businesses that featured good products that the other prosperous members of the kingdom found very beneficial.

Everything was good in the kingdom, but then like what happens so often throughout history, where wealth accumulates there are always those who look to steal the golden goose for themselves. That is why there has always been bank robbers.

Yet there are dishonest men and rogues who are more devious who instead of robbing banks they seek to curry special advantages and curry favor with those in power.

Anyway this kingdom had number of these rogues who descended on it and over time they convinced the king and princes to enact legislation which was supposed to benefit the people. Yet their intentions were less than honorable and it instead had the result of the kingdom losing many of it's sword and catapult making as well as other businesses to the neighboring kingdoms.

As a result many of the residents lost their jobs.

These same rogues also convinced the king and princes to pass other laws and regulations, which further curtailed jobs and business.

Now because so many people had lost their jobs or seen their incomes reduced many of the people in the kingdom could no longer afford the good products they got through the home businesses as they were just too much of a monthly expense.

Thus many of these home business people saw their businesses spiraling downward as they lost more and more customers and associates. They were becoming very discouraged.

Now it just so happened the people of this kingdom maintained their health by taking a number of medicinal remedies developed by the local apothecaries and medicine men.

Now what was happening because of a variety of factors the price of these valuable medicinals used by over 2/3 of the kingdom population were becoming more and more expensive. Now because of this and the poor economy the people were having trouble paying for these vital medicinals.

So one day an enterprising young fellow decided to do something about what he saw happening. He knew that the absence of competition always created higher prices and less quality for the people of the kingdom. He also knew that more competition lowered the prices and greatly served the people.

So he created a way to have the people supplying these medicinal remedies to compete for the people's business by having them bid against each other. The effect was to greatly drive down costs for the people of the kingdom of using this service.
